Styling a Sideboard Like a Stylist

Height, texture and a little restraint: our five-step formula for a surface that feels collected, not cluttered.

A sideboard is a small stage. Get it right and the whole room looks finished; get it wrong and it becomes the place where post goes to die.

Our five-step formula

  • Anchor with art — lean a large piece rather than hanging it
  • Add height with a lamp or tall vase on one side
  • Group objects in odd numbers
  • Mix textures: ceramic, wood, metal, paper
  • Leave a third of the surface empty

Restraint is a styling tool. Empty space gives each object room.

Edit seasonally. Swap one or two pieces every few months and the room will feel fresh without anything new being bought.
